Nicole Grams, Steele/Waseca Drug Court Coordinator along with two drug court graduates and Cindy Fowler, Steele County Detention Center Program Coordinator are co-presenting on opportunities for second chances. Second Chance Month affords former offenders the redemption they deserve.

The Steele/Waseca Drug Court is a proven model for addressing substance abuse in a judicial environment with clear and specific expectations and goals. The Drug Court uses a team approach to deliver evidence based practices including rigorous treatment, intensive supervision, random and frequent drug and alcohol testing, frequent court appearances, licensed mental-health service providers and educational programming to participants.

The Steele County Detention Center Programs assists detainees with opportunities to increase personal growth and achievement through different types of programming while incarcerated. The program assists with career guidance, addition support, improved life skills and behavior modification.

Nicole and Cindy will provide us with a broad understanding of treatment courts and detention center programs, recidivism pertaining to high risk/high need offenders and cost savings for these programs.

Nicole has a Master's Degree from MSU-Mankato in Corrections with a background in Chemical Dependency Studies. She has worked in the criminal justice field over 20 years. She was appointed as the Steele Waseca Drug Court Coordinator in July 2014. Cindy has worked for the Steele County Detention Center for over 16 years in the education department as a program coordinator. Prior to working in Steele County, she worked at the Como Zoo and Conservatory facility where she assisted with designing and facilitating educational programming for 12 years.
